 Southern Golden Retriever Club
Obedience Training
Our obedience training classes are held at the Canterbury Kennel Association's grounds,
McLeans Island, on the outskirts of Christchurch, on Wednesday evenings from 7.00pm onwards.
Puppy Class A six week course catering for baby puppies from 3 months
of age - this course introduces basic commands such as come when called, sit, down, wait and walking
on lead plus instruction is also given on handling for the show ring, grooming and the general
care of young puppies. This course begins at set times throughout the year and interested owners
should contact the Secretary to confirm their place in the next available
class. A set fee covering the whole course is paid at the start.

Domestic Class Designed for the family pet or owners not interested in competition, this class builds on the previous class instruction and adds basic heelwork, retrieving and simple stays. It is suitable for older puppies and adults and runs throughout the year and can be joined at any time. A small fee is paid for each session attended. Competition Classes These classes are for owners who have completed any puppy or domestic course and wish to compete in recognized obedience competitions from Special Beginners through to Test C. A combined Special Beginners and Novice class starts at 7.00pm and is followed by a combined Tests A, B and C class from 8.00pm onwards. Both classes run throughout the year and can be joined at any time. A small fee is paid for each session attended. For more information regarding any of these classes please contact the Secretary
